The play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is exported internationally… but not in France.

Surely you have Ever heard of Harry Potter and the Cursed Childa play featuring the children of the protagonists of the original Harry Potter saga. Until then generally reserved for the English-speaking public, it is exported more and more internationally.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child returns to Europe, not in English… but not in French either!

From 2016 to 2018, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was only a play represented “only” in the hall of the Palace Theater in London. From 2018, the room is exported and joins Broadway. In just one week of performances, it becomes Broadway’s highest-grossing play, being performed at the Lyric Theater in New York City. It will then be exported to Princess Theatre de Melbourne in 2019 and Curran Theater in San Francisco. In 2022, we discover the play at the Ed Mirvish Theater in Toronto. The piece was exported to Asia and in the Japanese language when she arrived on the boards of the TBS Akasaka ACT Theater in Tokyo, in July 2022. A new version, in a new language, is now expected in Europe. Unfortunately, it is not in France that we will expect the play. It is in Hamburg, which fans can discover Harry Potter und das verwunschene Kind, at the Mehr! Theater.

Already represented in Hamburg, it resumes in a new, shorter version

In the facts, the German version is already known to the public. Indeed, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was to be launched at the Mehr! Theater as of March 15, 2020, but the pandemic has delayed its premiere. Finally, it’s the December 5, 2021 the coin was launched in Hamburg. Except it was from the “old version”. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a particularly dense and rich play. For a long time she was presented in two distinct parts. It was possible to see the first part one day, and the sequel the next day if you wanted to. But the room was reimagined in a single 3.5 hour game with a twenty-minute intermission a few years ago. Approximately 1.5 hours of content was removed from the original release. She is already in place in shows in New York, Tokyo, Toronto and Melbourne since this year. The German version was still cut in half. The recent announcement of the launch of the “compact” version of the coin in Germany revived interest again for an already highly prized piece. The play will be played in two parts in Hamburg until January 8. From the February 9, 2023, the German version will also be the “compact” version … 3 hours 30 all the same!

What became of them… and what could they have been?

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is therefore not represented in French on the boards, but you can always find the text of the play in French in bookstores. On the script side, the play takes place directly following the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Nineteen years after the Battle of HogwartsHarry and Ginny bring their children to platform 9 3/4, as do the other new parents, Ron and Hermione, Draco and his wife, etc… Precisely, the story follows in particular the friendship between Albus Potter, son of Harry, and Scorpius Malfoy, son of Draco. Albus and Scorpius are both sent to Slytherin, and Harry Potter’s son struggles with the pressure he feels due to his father’s reputation. To “rebell” he goes steal a time turner with Scorpius, in order to return to 1994 at the time of the Triwizard Tournament and try to save the life of Cédric Diggory. They are accompanied by Delphi Diggorycousin of Cedric.

We discover during the play the consequences of their actions on the future of their respective families, but also on the world of Magic. Indeed, in the present of the story, before Albus and Draco alter time, Hermione is Minister of Magic, Harry is an employee of the Ministry, Ron runs a joke shop … If the past changes, their professional and private lives will be completely turned upside down !
