The launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, currently expected during the winter between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, is still a long way away, and the marketing campaign of Square Enix has not yet come alive. For the moment, therefore, we have to be content with the little information that occasionally pops up on the net.
In these days we have, for example, discovered that Steve Blumthe original voice actor of Vincent Valentine, he was not called back to play the character in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The news, in reality, is not surprising that much, since Square Enix has also done the same with every single character of Final Fantasy 7 Remake: from Cloud to Sephiroth, in the 2020 remake they were all voiced by different actors from those of the original classic from the 90s. When asked by a fan, Blum (also known overseas for his interpretation of Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop) confirmed that Square Enix has replaced all of the original voice actorsincluding him.
To say it all, at present we have no certainty of the presence of Vincent Valentine in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, although a fringe of fans take it for granted and Blum’s clarification on the recast argues in favor of a return. A former Turk with a mysterious past, Vincent Valentine was an optional character in the 1997 game that could also be ignored during the playthrough. However, a few years later, in 2006 to be exact, he was promoted to the lead role in Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-, a spin-off of the series for PlayStation 2.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake includes some elements of Dirge of Cerberus, including Weiss, however Vincent’s role in the new Final Fantasy 7 universe is yet to be discoveredespecially if we think that the Co-Director Motomu Toriyama has anticipated great upheavals to the original plot in Rebirth.
