Intel announced a reorganization of its Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics (AXG) graphics accelerator division. The company will divide it into two groups: one will deal with game graphics, the other with technologies for data centers. These groups will become part of the company’s other two business units. Raja Koduri, the current EVP of AXG, will be returned to his former position as Intel’s chief graphics architect.

Raja Koduri, who joined Intel in 2017 after leaving AMD, has taken over as head of Intel’s graphics architecture business. Last year, Koduri took over as head of the accelerator development group AXG. Following the reorganization of AXG, Koduri will return to the role of Intel’s chief graphics architect. He will be involved in the development of high-tech programs with an eye to the integration of new graphics, processor and AI architectures.
Part of the AXG group, which develops consumer graphics products from Intel, will merge into the Client Compute Group (CCG). He is responsible for developing the company’s consumer platform and processor technologies. AXG’s consumer division will be led by Lisa Pearce, current head of software and driver development for Intel graphics. Pierce’s direct supervisor will be Michelle Johnston Holthaus, current head of the CCG.
Part of the AXG department dedicated to graphics technologies for data centers (accelerators Ponte Vecchio, Rialto Bridge, etc.) will merge into the Intel Datacenter and AI Group (DCAI), which is responsible for solutions for the data center and AI platform. The GPU SoC and IP development teams will also be led by the DCAI department, however they will also be collaborating with the client graphics team. Super Compute Group head Jeff McVeigh will serve as interim head of this department at AXG. His direct supervisor will be Sandra Rivera, head of DCAI.
