12/22/2022 at 11:30 a.m. by Susanne Braun – With the announcements for the Winter Wonderland event in Pokémon Go, which starts on December 24, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., the creators of the AR game are introducing a small rule change. Pokémon from 2017 or earlier are guaranteed to be Lucky Pokémon when they’re traded—it’s always been that way. But the limit will soon be increased from 10 to 15 pocket monsters.
In the announcement of three events for the winter holidays 2022 in Pokémon Go, some of which are running simultaneously, the developers have hidden a reference to a rule adjustment for lucky exchanges that most trainers may not have noticed. With the Winter Wonderland event, the cap on Lucky Swap Pokémon caught in 2017 or earlier and then traded will be raised.
Previously, the cap on Pokémon dating from 2017 or earlier that are guaranteed to become Lucky Pokémon when traded with another trainer was 10. With Winter Wonderland, the limit will be raised to 15, but this rule change will be permanent and beyond the event, only effective on December 24, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. The Niantic people explicitly point this out via Twitter to prevent you from trading the valuable, five-year-old and aspiring lucky Pokémon right now and then wondering why they weren’t provided with golden lucky glitter.

They are probably sending out this reminder because there have been repeated mistakes about the lucky exchange and the activation of certain rules.
What is a Lucky Pokémon in Pokémon Go?
So what’s up with Lucky Pokémon? If you trade a Pokémon with a friendly trainer, there’s a chance that both Mon will become Lucky Pokémon. These two then require less stardust for power ups and their stats don’t drop below 12/12/12 – meaning they can potentially become a Hundo. The chance that Pocket Monsters will turn into Lucky Pokémon when traded increases the longer you’ve had the Pokémon in your collection. Pokémon that were caught in 2017 or earlier are guaranteed to become lucky Pokémon when they are exchanged – from 12/24/2022 at 10:00 a.m. then a total of 15 pieces.
