The cyber police shared their success in solving crimes related to cryptocurrencies. It is noted that this year it was possible to uncover more than 50% of all identified criminal offenses, the subject or means of which was cryptocurrency. This high rate was achieved thanks to cooperation with Crystal Blockchain. This is a global blockchain analytics company with which the cyberpolice is cooperating under a signed memorandum.
“Since the beginning of 2022, cyberpolice officers have been investigating more than 600 facts of the use of crypto assets in criminal schemes. In more than half of the cases, law enforcement officers, thanks to cooperation with Crystal Blockchain, managed to collect evidence of the illegal activities of defendants who financially support the Russian army or other illegal armed groups and identify more than 40 people involved.
Such results were achieved thanks to the combination of digital forensics with classical methods of investigation,” said Yuriy Vyhodets, Head of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
According to the cyber police, the Crystal Blockchain company provided law enforcement officers with tools to monitor crypto wallets, control money and track transactions. Thus, cooperation makes it possible to effectively counteract fraud using virtual assets.
At the same time, the cyber police intend to join the creation of an educational course from the Ministry of Digital Transformation in the future, as well as develop their own services for users of the cryptocurrency market. In particular, it is planned to launch a service for filing reports of committed offenses, where you can specify the wallet address or HASH transaction. This is expected to speed up and streamline the investigation.
