The boom has passed, but we must somehow live on.
The period of e-commerce boom has come to an end, as evidenced not only by Amazon’s decision to sublease excess warehouse space and reduce up to 10,000 employees. According to Bloomberg, the company is now thinking about optimizing the load of its flights, which since 2016 have been used in Europe and the United States for express delivery of goods to their own customers. In total, Amazon may have up to a hundred cargo airliners in operation, although some of them are leased.

By the way, part of the leasing contracts will not be extended, since Amazon no longer needs so many of its own aircraft to transport goods. Sources also explain that Amazon is actively looking for cargo for its flights. About a hundred airliners remain in operation with the e-commerce giant, but in September, traffic growth dynamics reached the lowest levels since the beginning of the pandemic. According to some estimates, only in the United States by the end of this year, the air cargo market will reduce turnover by a quarter. Amazon is happy to take on-road shipments from third-party customers. It could be pineapples from Hawaii and salmon from Alaska, as Bloomberg explains.
