It can’t be easy to plan the next step after a game like Elder Ringwhich has brought together critics and audiences getting sensational votes, receiving prestigious awards and selling over 17 million copies.
In the context of an interview granted to the Japanese PlayStation Blog, in reference to the resounding success of Elden Ring Hidetaka Miyazaki admitted that he still doesn’t fully understand what happened: “To be honest, I haven’t really analyzed it yet. It’s true that sales have never been higher, but I’m still not entirely sure what happened.”
For this reason, too if asked to replicate Elden’s success Ringwould neither be able nor happy to do it: “So, if they asked me to replicate it, I’d be in trouble. I don’t intend to change the way I’ve created games up to now, so if I did a thorough analysis and next time I try to achieve the same success, that might be a bad idea, so I try not to think too much about it. Either way, I’m truly grateful and consider myself lucky.”
We don’t know exactly what FromSoftware’s next game will be like, but from Miyazaki-san’s words it is clear that it won’t necessarily be like Elden Ring. Japanese authors do not feel obliged to go down the same road in an attempt to repeat its success, so we can expect anything. “We don’t feel like we’ve become world-famous developers, this is because we want to create things that are unique to us to begin with, and I’d like to continue that way. a wonderful environment that supports our goals.”
Although we are already thinking about the future, the recent game from FromSoftware still has a lot to say. After winning the Game of the Year award at the Game Awards 2022, Miyazaki confirmed that he still has many plans for Elden Ring.
