Today is the day to digest the Christmas Eve and eventually repeat the dose again and also to try the new things we receive. Among the many gifts that were in the shoes of users, smartphones managed to reach the top of preferences. So if you received a new smartphone from Samsung this Christmas, we’ll tell you exactly what to do.
Got a Samsung smartphone this Christmas? Do it!
As far as software is concerned, Samsung has several advantages. Lots of features, you can fully customize your smartphone and you don’t have to download third-party apps to perform the most common tasks. It’s just that most things are already available natively and that’s really good. However, to make the most of all that this equipment has to offer, it is necessary to do some things in the first configuration. So we got the job done. That said, we are going to tell you the first things to do if you get a new Samsung smartphone.
Create a Samsung account
The first thing you need to do when setting up your Galaxy device is creating a Samsung account. This helps to back up your data to Samsung Cloud in case your smartphone gets lost. However, you also need them to use the services that allow you to locate your smartphone. Without this service, Samsung will not be able to help you find your lost device.
If you don’t have a Samsung account yet, you can easily create one. For that you have to go to Settings > Accounts & Backup > Manage Accounts > Add Account > Samsung Account and follow the account creation process from there. This if you have not already done so in the initial configuration of the smartphone.
Change the function of the power button
Holding down the power button on Samsung Galaxy smartphones activates Samsung’s native voice assistant, Bixby. However, we can change that. However, for some people it is not useful. So we can change this function.
To do this we have to go to Settings > Advanced Features > Side Key and we can choose what the button does. We can configure the shutdown menu to appear. This will eventually be more useful for most users.
Switch to Google Apps
Most people prefer to stick with Samsung apps for everything. However, we have the possibility to choose what we like the most. So we can easily switch to Google ones. In this case we just have to go to settings, applications and choose the default apps.
For example tap on a category like the browser app and choose between Samsung Internet or Google Chrome. The same is available for other categories.
Remove pre-installed apps
On any Galaxy smartphone, there are about 30 Samsung apps pre-installed. Some are useful, others not so much. To uninstall unwanted apps, go to Settings > Apps and tap on one to open its information page. Then tap Uninstall > OK to delete it. In cases where it is not possible, you can disable it.
Hide apps on home screen
In the case of apps that cannot be uninstalled or disabled, they can at least disappear from our lives. So go to settings > home screen and then choose eye apps. Next, just choose everything you want not to appear.
Press twice to activate the camera
This is usually already enabled by default. However, it may not be. In that case we have to go to the same place where we can change the function of the power button. To do so, go to Settings > Advanced Features > Side Key. Then double press choose Camera quick launch.
