In 2022 the Final Fantasy series turned 35: it was in fact December 18, 1987 when the progenitor made his debut in Japan, to then become a global phenomenon in the following years thanks to many sequels, re-editions and spin-offs of great success.

Drawing up a podium is certainly not a simple task, given that the brand is registered Square Enix has offered several masterpieces and numerous classics in over three decades of history, but in no particular order here are the three best Final Fantasy ever:
Final Fantasy VI
The 1994 masterpiece is still regarded today as one of the best JRPGs of all time. The series had already left a deep mark with some of the previous installments (think of the excellent Final Fantasy IV, which introduced for the first time theActive Time Battle in the franchise), but it is with Final Fantasy VI that the pinnacle of the brand is touched in terms of gameplay, story, creativity and gameplay.

Final Fantasy VII
If the sixth episode is the high point of the classic 2D series, it is with Final Fantasy VII that a decisive revolution takes place that will change the future of Final Fantasy forever. 
Not only for the first time a game in the series is not released on consoles Nintendo, with the then Square which opted for the Sony PlayStation, but you switch to a 3D setting and change the tones and atmospheres of the game world, up to that moment more linked to medieval contexts to embrace a scenario that cleverly mixes modernity, fantasy and futuristic concepts. What hasn’t changed is the masterful quality of the work: gameplay, story and characters can be considered immortal to all intents and purposes, helping to make the brand famous and loved all over the world.
Final Fantasy X
After having written pages of gaming history with games published on PlayStation, the advent of PlayStation 2 it is the occasion for other important news for the brand. In addition to an even more cinematic cut than previously seen, for the first time a Final Fantasy game is dubbed, giving even more emotional depth to the plot and dialogues.
Final Fantasy X was perhaps more linear than its predecessors, but it still managed to conquer the hearts of the fans by proposing all the typical characteristics of the brand to the maximum form: memorable characters and narrative developments mix with turn-based gameplay that offers an even more reasoned and complex to fights. And if the Spherografia it turned out to be a splendid progression system of our party, to make the tenth chapter even more unforgettable the blitzballone of the best minigames ever offered by a JRPG.
But it must be said that there are several other games in the series that would make a splendid impression on such a podium. Classics like Final Fantasy VIII e Final Fantasy IX fully deserve an honorable mention, and we must not forget spin-offs of the highest level such as Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII e Final Fantasy Tactics, the latter has become iconic among strategic RPGs. And what to say about Final Fantasy XIV which, thanks to the reissue A Realm Reborn and the numerous expansions, has established itself among the most loved and played MMORPGs ever? The hope is that in this list of big names can also join Final Fantasy XVIas soon as it lands on PlayStation 5 in June 2023.
