As you might imagine, in Leak.ptwe always have some emails, or even messages on our personal social networks asking for help buying technology, more specifically computers or smartphones. Does it sound boring? Well, it’s not! It is something that fills our souls with good things, since there is always someone who ends up valuing our opinions, sometimes more “heavy” (but true) compared to other means in the Portuguese tech world.
That said, while things on computers have been much smoother between 2020 and 2022, such has not been the increase in the price of components, more specifically on graphics cards… The truth is that demand for smartphones seems to have been very similar throughout this last year, in all ranges.
But… In the lower and medium ranges, we have a victorious manufacturer! The Xiaomi! How will 2023 be?
Therefore, contrary to the recent past, in which I could suggest a device of any brand, in any price range, in 2022 my tongue (or fingers on the keyboard) have always taken refuge in the words ‘Redmi‘ e ‘Little bit‘, to give tips to less wealthy consumers, but still with high levels of demand.
Especially in the price range reigned by the Redmi Note 11, and all its variants. This smartphone sold like hotcakes!
This is proof of Xiaomi’s excellent work, and of course, a lack of market reading from the other giants in the Android world.
Yes, Xiaomi made some mistakes, more specifically in the price launch of the Redmi Note 11 Pro, which in my opinion, hit the shelves at an exaggerated price. But here we also have to give value to the brand, which after 3 or 4 months, had already put the price at a “normal” level, and in fact, extremely appealing.
In short, of course there are still alternatives on the market, coming from all brands in these lower ranges. However, it is completely undeniable that Xiaomi has done things well, and has incredible quality products between 150 and 400 €. Being now the flag of these same ranges. Products that, thanks to the manufacturer’s good name, stand out to consumers, conveying a simply incredible level of confidence.
Yes, trust!
What do I mean by this? Well, in the past, this type of user would always prefer a low-end Galaxy M or A, feeling some distrust of Xiaomi’s sub-brands. This is no longer the case today! Xiaomi managed to take root in the minds of Europeans, especially the Portuguese.
Thus being at the level of the big names in the market.
What are the next steps?
Xiaomi needs to continue this divide and conquer strategy. But at the same time, since it is known as the “cheap but very good brand”, you have to be careful in the higher ranges.
The Xiaomi 13 has to be appealing in its own way. It cannot, and should not, reach the exact same price as the Galaxy S23, or iPhone 14 Pro. The conquest is done in stages!
