Nowadays we rely a lot on navigation systems and this even makes some sense. After all, they must always be one step ahead. That said, in theory, they take us to our destination as quickly as possible and avoiding any obstacles. The problem is that this is not always the case. That said, if we are not aware of Google Maps, we may end up in the wrong place. The big issue is that things are not going very well with Maps, but with regard to Waze, especially in Android Auto, some problems are also occurring.
Google Maps: if you’re not careful, you’ll end up in the wrong place!
Google Maps redirection system is working terribly and this has attracted a new wave of criticism. In fact, this situation is leading users to abandon Google Maps in revolt.
As a result of this users are rating the app with just one star. This is a maximum of five. So the overall Google Maps rating dropped to 4.1 points. This is despite being the number one navigation app in the world.
But what is the reason for so many problems anyway?
Most people complain that Google Maps silently and automatically finds a new route and activates it during navigation without even asking for permission. Others claim that occasionally the new route changes the destination to a random location, obviously sending them somewhere else entirely.
Needless to say, it’s easy to see why this is such a big deal. If users don’t look at the screen when the redirection occurs, they will end up going to a different destination as Google Maps doesn’t seem to provide any confirmation about the change.
Others believe that the re-routing system makes no sense, simply because it sends people to alternative roads to eventually save just a few seconds.
It does not matter whether these claims are well founded or not. The truth is that Google Maps seems to be pushing more and more users to other apps. Logically, the great alternative is Waze, but apparently not for those using Android Auto.
Problems with Waze too
In the competitor world of Google Maps, more and more users seem to be struggling when behind the wheel.
While Waze continues to function correctly and alert users of incidents, notifications that appear on the screen no longer disappear from Android Auto. In other words, when the application shows a warning that we are heading towards a speed camera, the message remains permanently on the screen, without disappearing.
By default, Waze automatically hides the warning after passing the marked location. This approach makes perfect sense. Users don’t have to take their hands off the steering wheel to interact with the app. Thus the level of distraction remains at a minimum.
However, due to what appears to be a bug, some of the warnings, including those concerning radars, remain on the screen.
Removing them manually is currently the only way to dispose of them, but of course this is by no means something we want to do on a regular basis.
What’s worse is that the Android Auto team doesn’t seem to be very interested in dealing with this flaw. A Waze beta tester explains on Google’s forums that the Android Auto team won’t fix the glitch because they are busy working on a major overhaul of the app. Most likely, Google wants to make sure that the next update called Coolwalk is working flawlessly, so most efforts are directed towards this major update.
However, the same editor says that the Waze team is also investigating the flaw, which means that a fix may eventually arrive if your app is responsible for the notification issue. If it isn’t, and Android Auto is to blame, things could take a lot longer.
