12/26/2022 at 7:45 am by Sara Petzold – Henry Cavill gets a fitting farewell in The Witcher season 3. The leading actor of the Netflix series should be recognized for his contribution, showrunner Lauren Hissrich promised in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
When news broke that Henry Cavill would be leaving Netflix’s The Witcher as Geralt of Rivia, fans were outraged – so much so that showrunner Lauren Hissrich felt compelled to comment on several occasions. Now, Hissrich has spoken out again, promising fans that Cavill’s performance and contribution to the series will be duly acknowledged in Season 3.
Hissrich: Geralt is a different character in Season 4
Hissrich explained in an interview with the editors of Entertainment Weekly that the third season was not planned from the outset as a tribute to Cavill, but that it fits perfectly in terms of content:
“Henry brought so much to the show and we want to honor that properly. What’s interesting about Season 3 is that it’s the closest I’ve come to a one-to-one adaptation of the books of anything we’ve done to date Of course we can’t implement every page, but “The Time of Contempt” [das vierte Witcher-Buch und der zweite Roman, Anm. d. Red.] has given us so many big action events, plot points, key character moments and revelations of a great bad. There’s so much to do that we’ve been able to stay really, really close to the book.”
Hissrich also emphasized that Geralt’s storyline with Ciri in season 3 allows for a particularly heroic farewell for Cavill because the witcher is a different character in season 4. With the statement regarding the book loyalty of season 3, Hissrich is probably also alluding to the fact that Cavill is said to have left The Witcher because of creative differences, among other things. Insiders suspect the actor was unhappy with his lack of fidelity to Sapkowski’s books.
