Archer Maclean is deadborn in 1962, Maclean developed some of the most iconic games of the 80s, news of the death of the English programmer and game designer has arrived a few hours ago.
Particularly active in the 80s with productions intended for arcades and home computers of the time, Maclean is the author of games such as Dropzone, International Karate e International Karate Plusoltre a Jimmy White’s Whirlwind Snooker e Jimmy White’s 2 Cueball.
In the 2000s he worked on games such as Archer Maclean Presents Pool Paradise and Archer Maclean’s Mercury, released on PSP and PS2 and received positively by audiences and critics. His latest project dates back to 2009, when he works on Wheelspin as director, producer and designer.
Maclean would die just before Christmas but the news became public knowledge in the following hours, as former colleagues and friends began paying tribute to Archer on social media. Although Archer Maclean’s was no longer a prominent name for many years, Archer Maclean’s work influenced and continues to influence many developers and game designers today, who grew up with games such as International Karate and Dropzone, cult games of the 80s. Younger players as mentioned will probably know him from Mercury, one of the first games announced for the PSP in 2004.
