The MG star will be more expensive in 2023. This is what we have just learned by trading with concessions. This is not the only MG model affected.
MG4
We can say that the MG4 made an impression in 2022. This model is positioned opposite the Renault Mégane E-Tech and other Volkswagen ID.3 which are displayed, they, at least, 10,000 euros above.
This new MG4 was a tidal wave, the MG distributor thus filling its order book over several months. Why ? The MG4 offers excellent value for money.

Why is it good value for money?
The MG4 is based on the modular MSP (Modular Scalable Platform). The latter was developed in-house by SAIC Motor, MG’s parent company. Two batteries are available: 51 and 64 kWhoffering respectively 350 and 450 km range with a single charge according to the WLTP cycle.
On the highway, we had noted in our test a consumption of around 21.5 kWh at an average speed of 126 km/h and with the ventilation switched on. This allows us to hope for a little over 350 kilometers with the 64 kWh battery.
MG4
Then, it is powerful with a solid technical sheet: 204 hp, 250 Nm, 1,685 kg (weight contained thanks to the use of numerous aluminum elements), 50:50 weight distribution and propulsion. Besides being fun to drive.
Finally, the interior ergonomics are very good, it’s comfortable with decent boot space. Even though the infotainment has real weaknesses, like the lack of a scheduler, it has OTA updates, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Price increase in 2023
Finally, the price is the strong argument of this MG4. However, some MG dealerships have started communicating about price increases in France.
The MG4 would therefore be 1,000 euros more expensive in all finishes from January 2023, with an entry ticket of 29,990 euros, as well as an ecological bonus of 5,000 euros from January 1. We thus arrive at an invoice of 24,990 euros, i.e. 2,000 euros more than in 2022.
Note that the increases would also concern the MG Marvel R, 500 euros more for the Comfort finish and 1,000 euros more for the Performance finish.

We called MG France which tells us that no price increase has been communicated to date. For the moment, it would be an internal communication to the dealerships. But this increase would only be the result of numerous price increases from all car manufacturers, and it does not seem to be over.
We also called two concessions, which themselves confirmed to us that the prices were indeed going to increase on the MG4 and Marvel R (the two finishes mentioned above) from 1ᵉʳ January. In short, if you have planned to buy an MG4, you have a few days left to place your order.
