Although for Digital Foundry Horizon Forbidden West is the game with the best graphics of 2022, from the pages of ResetERA a rather particular statistic emerges: so far the last adventure with a protagonist Aloy did not receive even a single award like Game of the Year.
As already seen in recent years, a large thread has been opened on the popular forum aimed at collecting all the GOTYs officially assigned by hundreds of magazines globally and, as expected, sees Elder Ring total showman of the last vintage: according to the thread, the blockbuster of FromSoftware so far it has brought home the beauty of 145 awards as game of the year. Thus Elden Ring has won many more GOTY than God of War Ragnarok, with the exclusive Sony which however follows with 26 awards as Game of the Year.
Although the scene has been dominated overall by these two works, several other important productions released during 2022 (such as Immortality, Repentance, A Plague Tale Requiem, COD Modern Warfare 2 e Xenoblade Chronicles 3just to name a few) have managed to win at least a GOTY, all the more surprising therefore that no one in the world has wanted to reward the latest effort by Guerrilla Games with the most important recognition.
The only exception is represented by Dutch Game Awardsdove Horizon Forbidden West emerges victorious. However on ResetERA it is specified that this specific award is focused exclusively on video games developed in the territories of the Netherlands, and for this reason it is not counted as an official GOTY.
What do you think about this situation? Horizon Forbidden West would have deserved more consideration in your opinion?
