While fans of Star Wars can currently look forward to several series on Disney Plus, the future of the sci-fi series in cinemas is still uncertain. Although a number of filmmakers have already been commissioned with new projects, there have not yet been any results. And so, in 2019, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker remains the last film we’ve seen on the big screen so far. And now there are rumors that some sequel characters might even return.
Comeback of Rey, Finn and Co.?
Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson are currently writing a Star Wars project. According to insider Daniel Richtman, this film is set right after Episode 9. And not only that. Several characters that we know from the last sequel trilogy should also play a role here again. So it’s not out of the question that we’ll see actors like Daisy Ridley or John Boyega in front of the camera.

However, the further future of Rey, Finn and Co. is not supposed to be the main story of the film. It is said that other characters will be the focus here. The project will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who most recently worked on Disney Plus Season 1 of Ms. Marvel. The film is still a long way from a theatrical release. And as has recently been the case with Lucasfilm, we cannot rule out a cessation here either.
What’s next for Star Wars?
Wonder Woman director Petty Jenkins recently reported positive news. She confirmed that Rogue Squadron is still in production with her. However, there is no fixed date here either. The situation at Disney Plus is different. For example, March 1, 2023 will see the third season of The Mandalorian. Ahsoka’s solo debut is also scheduled for next year on the streaming platform.
