Although the market share of the round discs is slowly but surely decreasing, like video games and in the music industry, the sale of physical data carriers is still a sales factor that should not be underestimated when it comes to the exploitation of films, series, concerts and pieces of music. A look at the current sales charts is surprising.
How many people still buy DVDs and Blu-rays in Germany?
In addition to lavish collector’s editions via online sales, DVDs and Blu-rays are primarily offered in supermarkets, petrol stations and drugstores. Electronics markets such as Media Markt and Saturn are also heavily involved when it comes to selling data carriers, which now seem a bit old-fashioned.

According to the Allensbach market and advertising media analysis, in 2022 over 7 million people in Germany bought a DVD or Blu-ray within the last three months. Four years ago it was 8.74 million people. So the numbers are relatively constant despite a slight decline. For this reason, sales charts are still being collected in Germany.
