The death of Chadwick Boseman was absolutely tragic for the Black Panther sequel crew. In addition to mourning a deceased colleague, there was also the question of how to deal with the loss of the actor in the next film. Even before the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, it was known that Boseman would not be recast. Director Ryan Coogler recently spoke to the New York Times about how the character T’Challa ultimately died in the film. After all, the character in the sequel didn’t die in battle, but from a mysterious illness.
The idea behind the way
According to Coogler, the focus of the decision was the development of Shuri. “In terms of characters, we had to present a different version of Shuri,” says Coogler. “We capture the exact moment when she becomes a different character than the one we got to know. She’s the smartest person in the world, but she can’t save her brother. What does that do to you?
If someone had killed T’Challa, then Shuri would have pursued that very person. We wanted to create a situation in which you can only deal with yourself,” says the director. In this respect, the production seems to have made the right decision. After all, the Black Panther sequel is A success for Marvel both financially and financially, it failed to top the first film at the box office.
