Now we know when to expect the My Time at Sandrock multiplayer test: it will begin on January 12th. It will run for a week, i.e. from January 12 to 19, and the full update will go live in Early Access in early 2023 if “testing goes well”. It’s still a slight delay from what we were initially told, but given the circumstances the developers have gone through, it’s understandable.
If you participate in the multiplayer events that will be available during this playtest, you will be able to win “amazing early access rewards” that can be traded later, which is a pretty nice bonus. Basically, you will get cool cosmetics or something like that, and the developers will get valuable information that they can use to improve the multiplayer game.
Regarding access to multiplayer, if you already own My Time at Sandrock, you will be able to select multiplayer once the game is launched. After that, you will find yourself in The Builders Plaza and you can invite up to three friends, for a total of 4 players in the game. Together you can work, build, dive, fight and dive into dungeons.
The storyline of the multiplayer game involves traveling through a compressed version of Sandrock’s history thanks to technology invented by Dr. Qi. The game will have familiar faces from single player that you can meet, as well as historical events that you can see, which is an interesting idea.
During the open playtest, new monsters, planting and attachment systems, a city management system were added, and the maximum level of trade was also increased. As you level up, you’ll be able to unlock more multiplayer missions and features, so more content will be added all the time.
