Sony has registered the patent of a system designed for improve voice communication in video games, going to better filter the external noises. This is an almost natural step for the Japanese company, which has specialized in high-quality audio systems for decades. The system could also be useful in all those games in which proximity voice chat has been implemented, such as Back 4 Blood and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
It must be said that in recent years i system audio used by gamers are on average improved and it is difficult to find yourself in dramatic situations in which some members of a team seem to be speaking from another planet, many and such are the background noises audible when they activate the microphone. Nonetheless, improvements are always welcome.
The patented technology provides, in essence, to make greater use of i high quality microphones modern systems to determine which sounds will or will not be transmitted in-game. In theory, in this way there should be no more annoying background noises in the lobbies and in the proximity chats, those noises that can reveal the position of a player should disappear.
For now it is not clear how Sony intends to adopt this technology, i.e. if it will implement it in a particular line of headphones, perhaps dedicated to PS5, or in all its similar products. It will certainly be welcomed by the most dedicated online gamers, in games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Fortnite, to name a few.
It’s also worth remembering that not all patents end up being used in some product. Sometimes they simply remain in the experimental phase, as happened several times.
