God of War Ragnarok
This is not very surprising, God of War: Ragnarok is one of the best rated games of 2022. The latest from Santa Monica Studio invites us to find the duo of Kratos and Atreus in a new, more epic family epic than in 2018. Ragnarök, a famous event in Norse mythology, is this time the screenplay backdrop for the game. . Result: 19/20.
This new episode contains a moving, epic, generous and extremely dense epic. Santa Monica does at least very well in every aspect of its game and promises to make you feel a string of emotions, enough to brush aside its few weaknesses – Conclusion of the JV test.
Bayonetta 3
This year, the famous witch delivered a new action game bomb on Nintendo Switch. In Bayonetta 3, the arcane mistress of the Umbra is given new abilities and a new look, perfect for battling the strange creatures called homunculi that appear and ravage New York, causing a tsunami. We love the gameplay that is still as fluid and enjoyable, the game-changing demon summons and the scenario that is more ambitious than usual. Result: 19/20.
Bayonetta 3 definitely marks the comeback of the Platinum Games witch. With this new adventure, Bayonetta proves once again that she is the queen of beat’em up by offering battles that are still as exhilarating and spectacular as ever, which are sublimated here thanks to many new weapons and the mechanics of summoning demons. that changes the way of fighting – Conclusion of the JV test.
Horizon : Forbidden West
Horizon returned this year with the episode Forbidden West, which still sets its story in a post-apocalyptic universe where mechanical creatures are legion. Aloy, our experienced hunter, is this time in charge of overcoming the Hades virus capable of exterminating all life on Earth. We retain in particular from this unprecedented epic a sumptuous AD and universe, a more pleasant exploration and then a strategic and lively combat. Result: 19/20.
Building on an already very good first episode, Horizon Forbidden West hits the stars, becoming a true culmination for the Guerrilla Games studio formula but also for the “classic” open world genre in general.
Elder Ring
Voted GOTY 2022 at the Game Awards, Elden Ring marks the collaboration between Hidetaka Miyazaki and George RR Martin, the creator of Game of Thrones. Your mission in this unforgiving universe: become the new master of the Underworld, a region torn apart by the thirst for power of demigods, called by the mighty Circle of Eden. We had the pleasure of discovering a simply enormous open world, a very successful artistic direction and a truly rewarded curiosity. Result: 18/20.
With its new open world dimension, Elden Ring brilliantly fleshes out FromSoftware studio’s already highly effective formula and offers Souls a spiritual sequel that is both ambitious and accessible. All the novelties converge towards this last objective: the open world allows you to arm yourself more than ever with the epic and obligatory fights that the adventure reserves, without having the impression of walking around just to farm. – Conclusion of the JV test.
A Plague Tale : Requiem
In A Plague Tale: Requiem, Amicia and Hugo leave for Provence after escaping rats and the inquisition in the province of Guyenne. The two heroes are still battling the plague rats, and Hugo’s abilities still pose a threat to those seeking to seize power. We really liked the long, well-written and breathtaking adventure, the richer gameplay that offers pleasant choices and very nice graphics for varied settings. Result: 18/20.
A Plague Tale: Requiem is the game of confirmation. That of a sister’s faith in her little brother when the world crumbles at the footsteps of their defeat. Then, that of the great talent of Asobo Studios. Offering richer gameplay without upsetting the formula, this sequel never forgets the essentials in relation to the genre it targets. – Conclusion of the JV test.
NBA 2K23
On the field of sports games, NBA 2K23 is clearly the big winner of the year. The 2023 edition of the famous Basketball games license reintroduces the Jordan Challenges, which allow players to reproduce the 15 most important and spectacular moments of Jordan’s career. We loved the further improved lifespan, the new and enjoyable animations, or the shooting system, the more demanding and fair timing. Note that we are talking about the Xbox Series and PS5 versions here, the PC, Switch, PS4 and Xbox One versions being well below. Result: 18/20.
the GOAT Michael Jordan can be proud: NBA 2K23 version PS5 and Xbox Series is undoubtedly the best opus of the license released to date. In addition to the already gargantuan lifespan, further improved in solo and multiplayer thanks to a My NBA mode boosted by the choice of 4 eras, the return of the Jordan Challenge, the co-op mode in My Team and the Career Theater, the gameplay in will delight some. – Conclusion of the JV test.
Two Point Campus
In terms of management games, Two Point Campus was a very pleasant surprise. After a hospital component, this time we are going to the world of universities. The objective is then to manage a campus where students will be able to attend atypical courses such as “the school of chivalry”, or even “salivary gastronomy”. The scenarios are renewed, the formations are numerous and varied and the universe is at the same time cute, shimmering and funny. Result: 18/20.
Two Point Campus makes an almost perfect copy by renewing the management game genre. Its amazing two-phase game system allows you to combine the best of both worlds: a game where you can build without stress and with ease, and a game where you can observe with pleasure the result of your work. – Conclusion of the JV test.
Rogue Legacy 2
On the indie side, we particularly loved Rogue Legacy 2! The Cellar Door Games studio offers us this year a sequel to its first success; in this “genealogical rogue-lite”, the concept is quite simple: the player must explore a procedurally generated world divided into several biomes inhabited by bosses. With each death, you have to start the journey again and choose an heir with random genetic attributes with several classes offering a variety of play styles. Result: 18/20.
Addictive, varied, precise, coherent, relevant, Rogue Legacy 2 serves as the ideal sequel to the cult 2013 game that popularized rogue-lite. But more than doing better on absolutely every level (classes, weapons, traits), the Cellar Door Games studio is setting a new benchmark in the genre thanks to a clever mix of metroidvania and randomly generated levels. – Conclusion of the JV test.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was certainly the role-playing game not to be missed this summer on Nintendo Switch. Players were invited to discover the world of Aionios, where the nations Keves, developed using its technology, and Agnus, specialized in magic, are at war. Six soldiers from these two belligerents will be at the heart of the intrigues of this conflict. We were able to savor a captivating and moving storyline around war and death and discover a cast of endearing and well-developed characters. Result: 18/20.
With Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the Nintendo Switch welcomes a new essential role-playing game in its catalog. Far from the lightness of tone of the second episode, the title delivers a captivating scenario, rich in twists and emotions, aided by a beautiful soundtrack. – Conclusion of the JV test.
