News culture “It’s not a priority”: a Star Wars spin-off completely abandoned by Disney and Lucasfilm?

In 2023, Disney will continue to develop the Star Wars universe with new programs. But the big-eared giant could also rethink the foundations of his empire that he has been building since the acquisition of Lucasfilm. One of the spin-offs developed in parallel to the last trilogy could be completely abandoned.
Disney multiplies Star Wars projects
Since the acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, Disney has worked to give a second life to the Star Wars universe, with more or less brilliance. If the new trilogy directed by JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson has been widely decried, the spin-offs produced by the firm with big ears have, for some, met with great success, whether in the cinema or on the small screen.
With The Mandalorian in mind, Disney has chosen to continue producing programs intended for television, such as The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor, then Ahsoka soon. Star Wars animated series are also on the rise, with the Clone Wars sequel, The Bad Batch, Star Wars vision… a large number of productions can be found on Disney+.
But the giant hasn’t given up on the big screen and has given us one of the best Star Wars films of all time: Rogue One. After this success, the firm decided to reiterate to offer us this time an Origin Story on one of the most emblematic of the saga with the film Solo, which received a more mixed reception. Since the release of this first film which was logically to receive a sequel, the future of Han Solo and Chewbacca seems compromised.
A solo film
The information comes from Ron Howard directly. The successful American director, called in to supervise the project, thinks that this first film will be the last. For him, Solo is not a priority for Lucasfilm.
The only discussion I know of about a Solo sequel is from fans so far. I don’t think that’s a priority for Lucasfilm, at least as I understand it. There are some great characters that have been introduced though, and the folks at Lucasfilm love the fans and really listen to them, so never say never – but I’m not aware of any concrete plans to continue the story or to exploit these characters. – Ron Howard.
Solo was not well received by critics – especially French – but remains, at least if we are to believe the various aggregators, a film quite appreciated by the public. Will Disney capitalize once again on the characters introduced in this opus and satisfy the fans, or on the contrary make a clean sweep of the past to continue to produce new original content? Nothing is certain for the moment and Solo remains in the most total vagueness.
