A OPPO will be working on your own processors for mobile devices, more specifically for application in their smartphones Android. This thesis is widely accepted, especially if we take into account the chips MariSilicon X e MariSilicon Y.
As Apple has been doing for several years with its specific processors for the Apple iPhone, as well as Google itself with its Tensor, OPPO can follow the same path.
Even if this implies a serious investment in R&D, the results in the medium and long term can be highly rewarding, and Apple is proof of this by optimizing hardware and software in a unique way.
OPPO prepares its own processors for Android smartphones
Supporting this thesis are the image and Bluetooth signal processors already developed by OPPO and, incidentally, already used in its smartphones. At stake are the MariSilicon X and MariSilicon Y processors, the latter presented during INNO Day 2022.
Paying attention to the solutions already developed by the Chinese manufacturer, the chips already bring significant improvements to photography, as well as the quality of video recording. These chips serve as an aid to ISPs included in conventional SoC’s.
In addition, the new audio chip, MariSilicon Y, is expected to bring lossless audio streaming via Bluetooth, something unprecedented. This is perhaps one of OPPO’s most outstanding achievements in the last year, bringing a new quality standard to wireless audio.
Like Apple, OPPO must also develop its own SoC’s
According to information advanced by a Chinese leaker, OPPO will be in negotiations with TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) in order to produce chipsets according to its specifications.
The chipsets will be intended for application in smartphones and will thus allow OPPO to optimize not only the software but also the hardware. In other words, the end user should benefit from this paradigm shift.
The mass production of these components will take place next year, with availability starting in the second quarter of 2023, point out the same sources. For now, the design and general architecture of the processors will be perfected and finalized.
The first batches of control follow, with the production of small quantities in order to test their stability and feasibility. For OPPO, this will be one of its greatest achievements in 2023, the culmination of years of research and work.
5G processors arrive in late 2023 with 4nm lithography
It should be noted that the information was advanced by the IceUniverse leak through the Chinese social network Weibo. This is a source with a good record of reliability, so I personally believe in this thesis in light of the work I have been following along with OPPO.
The Chinese company already has at least two viable processors on the market, so designing a SoC is the next logical and natural step. To achieve this goal, the company will have hired hundreds of new employees, but unfortunately we don’t have more details at the moment.
Google chose Samsung, OPPO and Apple over TSMC
OPPO independently developed the processor, which will be used in OPPO smartphones in 2024.

Nevertheless, it will be quite interesting to see what the company has in mind for its own processors. For now, the technology will have started a partnership with TSMC with a view to producing these chipsets, but there are more potential chip manufacturers in the world like Samsung.
By the way, it should be noted that Google chose Samsung to produce its Tensor, while Apple has been working with TSMC for the same purpose. That is, more and more smartphone manufacturers are looking for their own solutions for chipsets and processing solutions.
OPPO has a chip development team of thousands of people, and will develop its own processor. and the industry is more optimistic about OPPO chips.

Meanwhile, we have also seen MediaTek developing new solutions under its open source architecture, the Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture. The goal? Encourage more manufacturers to customize the processors developed by MediaTek to meet specific needs.
More recently, we saw OPPO showing interest in the development of custom processors such as the version of the MediaTek chip that equips the OPPO Reno8 Pro, which is very powerful.
That said, we now await the next developments from the Chinese manufacturer and welcome its commitment to developing its own chips.
After Google, OPPO also joined the camp of independent research and development of AP.
