Every year there is a new generation of the Apple iPhone. In 2022, the manufacturer decided against a successor for the iPhone 13 Mini. Supposedly, the poor sales figures meant that the Americans did not develop a successor. Instead, the new iPhone 14 Plus complements the range. Although it offers the same screen diagonal as the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 6.7 inches, it is a whole 300 euros cheaper with an RRP of 1,150 euros. According to the Extremetech website, Apple should now rethink the product portfolio for the iPhone 15.
Will the iPhone 15 Plus be cheaper?
The two Pro models iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max come with a 120 Hz screen with always-on function, the new SoC Apple A16, a better camera and the Dynamic Island instead of a notch. In contrast, the Plus model offers little differentiation. The only differences compared to the cheaper, smaller iPhone 14 are the extra screen area and a battery with more capacity. According to analysts, the iPhone 14 Plus sells comparatively poorly. In terms of price, the Plus model is around 150 euros higher than the normal iPhone, but the difference to the iPhone 14 Pro is also only 150 euros. In order to increase sales, Apple could possibly sell the iPhone 14 Plus cheaper, at least one supplier believes.
With the iPhone 15, on the other hand, Apple could make the differentiation between the Pro version, the normal iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus even stronger. Apple’s strategy is to persuade customers with more Pro features to pay the surcharge for the Pro model, which costs at least 1,300 euros. After all, a normal iPhone 14 costs just under 1,000 euros. The only thing that can be considered certain is that the new iPhone models from 2023 will use USB-C instead of Lightning for the first time.
