Apple has a sizeable slice of the wireless music world in its pocket, thanks to the many AirPods models available on the market. Even so, due to the increase in quality in the lower ranges, the North American giant now seems to feel compelled to launch a slightly less equipped version, and for that very reason, significantly cheaper.
Make way for AirPods Lite.
Apple: Too much competition? It’s time to launch AirPods Lite
So, in case you didn’t know, we’ve been hearing about the possible launch of the AirPods Lite for several years now, most likely being a kind of contingency plan that Apple has hidden in the drawer, in case it was really necessary.
Well, it seems that in 2023, it will really be necessary to launch cheaper AirPods to maintain market dominance. However, at a time when second-generation AirPods reach €80~100 at various times of the year… It’s hard to see what kind of price Apple wants to achieve. Will we see AirPods Lite at ~50€? It just doesn’t look very Apple.
The most likely, and undeniably more Apple, should be the disappearance of the AirPods 2, for a reuse of the design of the AirPods 3, with some cuts in the hardware. But… Wouldn’t that be a rather pointless exercise, given that the price would be very similar to the current AirPods 2?
Well, there is also the possibility that these AirPods Lite will be canceled if Apple decides that they don’t really bring anything new or different. But, at this moment, there are even plans for its launch, such has been the evolution of the build quality, and audio quality, in the lower ranges of the TWS wireless music world.
