Developers from Nightdive Studios have decided on the release window of the System Shock remake – the project should go on sale in March of this year. It was originally planned that the game would become available for purchase during 2022, but in October there was information about the postponement.
The authors of the remake then made it clear that the scale of the work done surprised even them themselves, and cooperation with the Prime Matter publishing house made it possible to concentrate efforts on finalizing minor changes, as well as fixing bugs and general “polishing” of the game.
In their new message, Nightdive Studios was also quick to announce some features of the remake that we haven’t heard about yet. For example, the redesigned System Shock will boast updated weapon effects, more so for the Plasma Rifle.
Also, the release version of System Shock will be able to surprise players with the following changes:
fully customizable dismemberment model for each opponent; the need to scan maps for access to restricted areas; numerous changes in the interiors of the “Citadel”; new variations of enemies in later levels.
The System Shock remake was created from scratch (and how else – the original was released in 1994) for PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Developers at all stages of the project’s creation spoke about the importance of preserving the classic gameplay, but only with new graphics, sound and updated music. The interface and controls will also be brought to modern standards.
“Meet SHODAN, the crazy AI. She has seized control of Citadel Station, turned her crew into an army of cyborgs and mutants, and is now about to do the same to the entire Earth. Explore a space station where everything went wrong and fight your way to new levels. Don’t let SHODAN destroy humanity,” reads the official description of the remake in the Valve store. By the way, this same SHODAN villainess is voiced by the same actress that was in the original.
