01/03/2023 at 4:41 p.m. by Manuel Christa – In the run-up to CES 2023 in Las Vegas, Samsung is showing two mobile, foldable and collapsible OLED displays under the project name Flex Hybrid. Samsung previously showed the 17-inch OLED displays “Flex Slidable Solo” and “Flex Slidable Duet”.
The main screen of the Flex Hybrid is inside and the device is a 10.5-inch tablet with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The right side of the Flex Hybrid screen slides or rolls to the right. The screen diagonal expands to 12.4 inches, turning the device into a large tablet. However, the Flex Hybrid is only a prototype for the time being, for example for future laptops.

The Flex Hybrid isn’t the only new Samsung screen at CES 2023 with a sliding part. At Intel Innovation 2022, Samsung showed a 17-inch screen with a sliding part, which will now be on display at CES.
Samsung Slidable Flex Duet OLED
The Flex Slidable Solo is a 14-inch OLED panel that can transform into a 17.3-inch screen when slid open from one side. The Flex Slidable Duet is an OLED panel that slides open from two sides to convert a 14-inch screen into a 17.3-inch screen. These panels were presented at Intel Innovation 2022 in September 2022. Now they have their first public appearance at CES.
With these new OLED panels it will be possible to develop advanced, compact devices that can still contain large screens and turn mobile devices into real professional devices when needed. There is no telling when Samsung will make a commercial device like the one pictured above. And maybe we don’t necessarily want to hold such devices in our hands in the near future. As exciting as these display innovations are, the resulting device still appears to be quite chunky, and with so many moving parts, has plenty of breaking points.
