In October 2020, streaming giant Netflix and Ubisoft announced several series based on the Assassin’s Creed franchise. After the 2016 Assassin’s Creed film starring Michael Fassbender was rather disappointing, fans of the series have since been looking forward to the real series promised by Netflix. It was billed as an “epic, genre-bending live-action adaptation” that was still looking for a showrunner in 2020.
The creator of Vikings: Valhalla was set to be the showrunner
They finally found a creative person in Jeb Stuart who was to take over the management of the planned series. As a screenwriter of the action classics Die Hard and On the Run, he can already look back on an impressive career. He also created the Netflix series Vikings: Valhalla, which launched last year, making him a promising choice for the showrunner of the Assassin’s Creed series.

But now Stuart announced to Collider that he was “no longer involved” in the project. The step was taken in agreement with Netflix and was due to the fact that parts of the production had been relocated from Los Angeles to London. This also marked the transition to a new group of creative minds, who would, however, take over Stuart’s vision of the series.
When will the Assassin’s Creed series come out?
The series is still in the early stages of development. A release date and cast have not yet been announced. However, outgoing showrunner Jeb Stuart was upbeat: “I know that [die Serie] It’s going to be great whenever it comes out.” So, as a fan of the franchise, one can only hope that the departure of the showrunner isn’t too bad news and that we’ll have more news about the series soon.
