The first US union of game testers was formed at Microsoft through its subsidiary Zenimax Studios.
In the US, the Communication Workers of America (CWA) announced that more than 300 video game testers at Microsoft subsidiary Zenimax Studios have agreed to form a union.
Numbers about the vote were not given, but the votes at the four locations in Maryland and Texas were overwhelming, as the news agency Reuters reports.
By forming the union, Microsoft is making good on its promise to voluntarily recognize such organizing. With the recognition, the group also avoids possible legal disputes with the US labor inspectorate National Labor Relations Board.
CWA President Christopher Shelton said in a statement on forming a union:
“Microsoft is taking a different path that strengthens its culture and ability to serve its customers and should serve as a model for the industry and a blueprint for regulators.”
Microsoft said after the announcement that it looks forward to good faith negotiations to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement.
