Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has delayed his retirement to write a mysterious dark fantasy game.
In a brief interview, Hironobu Sakaguchi revealed that he is working on a yet-to-be-announced Dark Fantasy game.
At the end of the year, the Japanese magazine Famitsu asked 141 game developers about their ambitions for the year 2023. Also Hironobu Sakaguchi, known as the creator of the Final Fantasy saga, was among the interviewees. The 60-year-old actually intended to retire. However, he has apparently withdrawn from this plan.
“I thought I’d retire (laughs), but I decided to try again…” he replied to the “ambition for 2023” point. On the next point, he elaborates, “I’m not going to finish Final Fantasy XIV. See you in Eorzea! And while the title is still unreleased, I’ve started writing the scenario for new action. It will be Dark Fantasy.”
When and on which platforms the game could come is still open.
Hironobu Sakaguchi founded Mistwalker in 2004. Titles like Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and The Last Story have remained positive memories for many players. As a small side note, it can be mentioned that new editions of these works are unfortunately not to be expected, as you could read in 2021.
While the studio’s early titles were for consoles like the Xbox 360, Wii, and Nintendo DS, more recent releases have been on Android and iOS. The latest work of the studio “Fantasian” is only available with Apple Arcade.
