01/04/2023 at 18:21 by Jusuf Hatic – With the AI-supported tool RTX Video Super Resolution, Nvidia wants to be able to display videos played in the browser in higher quality. For the time being, the feature should only work in the Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browser.
Nvidia not only used CES 2023 to officially present the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti – the company also announced some new software features during the Geforce Beyond presentation. In addition to a new subscription for Geforce Now, the manufacturer showed the RTX Video Super Resolution tool, an AI-supported option for upscaling videos played in the Internet browser and displaying them with 4K resolution.
As Nvidia explained when asked by PCGamer, RTX Video Super Resolution can work with an original resolution of 360p videos up to conventional Full HD clips and should be able to create greater detail sharpness with the scaling. This is done by removing compression artifacts before the AI-supported tool starts upscaling. In the example video, Nvidia shows the possibilities of RTX Video Super Resolution using a 1080p clip from Apex Legends, which is then scaled to 4K resolution.

With regard to the required hardware, Nvidia assumes a graphics card from the RTX 3000 or RTX 4000 generation, but without providing detailed information. In addition, RTX Video Super Resolution only works within the Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers – Nvidia has not yet announced whether Firefox users, for example, will also be able to enjoy the tool at a later date. The launch date of RTX Video Super Resolution is targeted in February.
