In a world where almost everything is “Smart”, why not have dressings that are also smart? Well, that’s exactly what a Stanford team is trying to develop and launch on the market.
Shall we try to understand?
Smart dressings! Yes, it will be possible to heal wounds in a “smart” way
So, who hasn’t gone to the kitchen to make a sandwich, and instead of a dry chat with a slice of cheese in it, ends up with their hand cut off? Well, I’ve been in that situation more than once. (Yes, I know, clumsiness!).
Unfortunately, despite advances in technology in recent years, waiting for our body to regenerate is still a slow and, of course, boring process. But that may be about to change! At least as far as this type of injury is concerned. After all, a research team from Stanford seems to have arrived at a new type of dressing, capable of accelerating the healing process of a wound. Like?
Well, this kind of Smart Band-Aid combines biosensors with electrical stimulation to help patients heal injuries faster. More specifically, we have several wireless circuits inside the dressing, capable of helping to understand how the wound is, or is not, closing, to understand what kind of stimulus needs to be given. The idea is to close the wound faster while reducing infection thanks to total wound isolation.
Interestingly, as everything works wirelessly, it may even be possible to get an idea of the work of this same think, through a simple app, in the near future.
