01/04/2023 at 3:05 p.m. by Karsten Scholz – The confirmation is here! System Shock will be remastered in March 2023. Anyone who missed Looking Glass’s classic first-person shooter (or wants to experience it again after all these years) will soon be able to close this knowledge gap in a modernized form.
In the 90s I mainly gambled on the Super Nintendo and later on the Playstation. However, I didn’t get my own PC until the end of the 90s for high school. Although I got to know and love various PC classics such as Diablo, Warcraft 2 or Age of Empires from friends, a whole lot of top titles slipped through my fingers at the time due to a lack of suitable hardware. A classic that definitely belongs: System Shock, which appeared in 1994 for MS-DOS.
Back then, the developers of Looking Glass (Thief, Ultima Underworld 2) created an unusual mix of first-person shooter, adventure and role-playing game, which should pave the way for Warren Spector’s Deus Ex. In addition to the technical quality of the graphics and sound, the convincing atmosphere and the multi-layered, complex storyline, which can only be developed gradually, were also praised.

System Shock Remastered: New teaser trailer released
Remake finally on course for launch
I always found it a little silly that I missed System Shock back then. But not stupid enough to make up for it many years later. The 3D graphics from back then just haven’t aged well. I didn’t want to do that to my eyes. I was all the happier when Nightdive Studios started a crowdfunding campaign for a new edition of System Shock in 2016 (!). They wanted $900,000 at the time. It ended up raising $1,350,700. The release was planned for December 2017.

System Shock Remastered: New teaser trailer released
The developers of the System Shock Remake have released a new seven-minute teaser trailer showing some gameplay in the iconic Citadel Station.
I’ll spare you the roller coaster ride of the developers with their various shifts. One thing is certain: the wait will soon be over! On the game’s Kickstarter campaign page, those responsible announced that the reboot will be released in March 2023. The title can already be pre-ordered on Steam for 40 euros. You can also download a demo there. If, like me, you missed the classic back then, this might also be of interest to you.
Finally, a statement from the developers: “As some of you may have noticed, this isn’t the first time we’ve announced a tentative launch date, but a lot has changed over the past few years – the scope and scale of the project has increased evolved dramatically and with Prime Matter joining the project we were able to focus on improving quality of life, fixing bugs and supporting localization – the final big steps on the road to releasing a game we’re all incredibly proud of .It also gave us the time to improve different aspects of the game that needed that extra shine.”
