The myth of Dracula has been widely exploited in the Seventh Art and not many key players: in other words, Renfield intends to use it with a slightly different vision. This soon-to-be-released film mixes gothic with raw action, including the participation of a certain Nicolas Cage.
Changing the Draculas
RM Renfield is a well-known character in the Dracula story: he is a maniac treated in a psychiatric hospital, with a rather disreputable appearance. In Renfield, a brand new film that is currently talking about him, his writing will be somewhat revised: this hard worker embodied by Nicholas Hoult (X-Men, The Menu) serves here on the Dracula account.
In exchange for a particular power, he must then meet his needs within a modern society, in particular… to feed him. He must then find victims and then becomes an accomplice in countless murders: in other words, the guy is clearly burnt out and decides to turn his back on his Boss.
A bit like a sharp-toothed mobster, Dracula and his quasi-military team then hunt RM Renfield who embarks on an explosive and gothic adventure, with Hollywood sauce. A brand new trailer has just emerged, which you can find above, in our video player.
A transformed Nicolas Cage
If RM Renfield seems to be the protagonist, the film’s other figurehead is definitely the antagonist, either the Dracula account. To embody it, Nicolas Cage was elected, which appears in a new look, complexion and teeth. There is no doubt that communication should focus more on him.
We also find the actress and rapper Awkwafina (Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, Jumanji Next Level) or Ben Schwartz (Sonic’s voice actor in the film adaptation). The director’s hat will be worn by Chris McKaythe author of The Tomorrow War or Lego Batman, The Movie.
Renfield will be released in cinemas on May 31, 2023 in France.
