January 5th, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. by Karsten Scholz – Heinrich Lenhardt should be familiar to many of you. The games veteran not only shaped the first buffed years as editor-in-chief, he also designed and managed various other games publications, such as Power Play, Video Games PC Player or CHIP Power Play. Heinrich Lenhardt’s new eBook will be published on January 11, 2023, in which the experienced journalist looks back on the 1985 game year.
The game veterans are currently in a writing mood! After we recently recommended the fifth edition of Winnie Forster’s specialist book “SpieleKonsolen und Heimcomputer” (Game Consoles and Home Computers), Heinrich Lenhardt’s new work is now in the spotlight. Of course, we don’t have to introduce Heinrich to buffed veterans anymore. After all, the experienced games journalist shaped the first buffed years as editor-in-chief.
It was he, for example, who lured the unsuspecting Marcel and Zam into the first buffedCast with carrot and stick, thus creating the longest-serving, regularly appearing and still running German-language games podcast. A buffedShow without an opening gag? Unimaginable for Heinrich! And the buffed magazine was also created under his leadership.

Gaming veteran with retro fever
But buffed was by no means Heinrich Lenhardt’s first job. As early as 1984 he got into games journalism as part of the Happy Computer editorial team at Markt&Technik-Verlag. He later designed and managed various other games publications, such as Power Play, Video Games PC Player or CHIP Power Play. Today you can hear him regularly in the games veterans podcast, alongside Jörg Langer. He also writes freelance for various clients or works as a translator. Oh, and when time permits, Heinrich also writes eBooks.

“Lenhardt’s Game Year 1984” was published a few years ago, in which Heinrich looks back on his own beginnings as a journalist, but also on the game gems of 1984. The sequel will be released on January 11, 2023: Lenhardt’s game year 1985. The official website says:
“Bards blow their horns, droids plan hostile takeovers, the Rambo wave is raging and a little man settles down in the C64: In 1985, the greatest things are happening on home computers. Heinrich Lenhardt presents the 50 most important games of the year from his point of view describes their fascination at the time and analyzes their significance from today’s perspective.”
The games highlighted in the journey through time include classics such as The Bard’s Tale, Commando, Master of Magic, Paradroid, Ultima IV and Winter Games. If you are interested in a comprehensive reading sample, you will find it here. You can pre-order the Kindle version of the eBook on Amazon for $8.99.
