The American technology giant took advantage of the CES 2023 spotlight to deliver some long-awaited news. The new design that was so much talked about during 2022 for Android Auto is finally available to everyone.
After the end of the testing phase of the new Android Auto interface, the time has come to put it fully on the market. Its main objective is to simplify the use of this software for cars.
New Android Auto design is simpler and more intuitive
The new Google operating system interface for your car’s infotainment system was announced at Google I/O 2022. During these months we’ve been able to see some of its innovations, but now it’s time to transfer them to your car.
This much-desired update will be distributed via the Google Play Store to all compatible devices. Indeed, keep an eye out for updates if you really want to use the new design for Android Auto.
Among all the novelties now introduced in Android Auto, we can highlight the redesign of Google Map. Maps will be closer to drivers and arrive with improved size / accessibility in order to reduce distractions.
We will also have a new multimedia panel with a dynamic adjustment to the screen of the car’s infotainment system. Also in this chapter, the Google Assistant’s musical suggestions will be just a click away.
Access to calls and messages has also been simplified, making them available to drivers at all times. For this, a dock was added, at the bottom of the screen, with shortcuts to frequent services.
WhatsApp Calls Coming Soon to Android Auto
One of the novelties brought now by Google concerns a greater integration of WhatsApp in the Android Auto platform. Soon, it will be possible to make calls directly from the car’s operating system.
This novelty will be available for Pixel and Samsung smartphones. Its availability schedule was defined “soon”, so we have to wait for more information on this topic.
We should also highlight the support for digital keys. This is a feature similar to that introduced by Apple that will allow the driver to “store” his car key on his smartphone.
This feature will be launched for Samsung smartphones soon and for Xiaomi at the end of 2023. BMW will be one of the builders adhering to this function, but more will follow in the coming months, guarantees Google.
