On the occasion of the annual edition of the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), Sony and Honda unveiled the Afeela, the first electric car born from the collaboration of the two Japanese giants. In addition to serving as a simple means of transport, the vehicle will be a real entertainment center.
Just as Sony’s previous statements suggested, which already anticipated in November how it wanted to make entertainment a central factor in the experience offered by the car, Sony and Honda’s EV will allow you to play video games on the go. During the presentation that took place during the CES 2023 keynote, the company showed some glimpses of Horizon Forbidden Westone of the most acclaimed PlayStation exclusives, on Afeelia’s backseat display, alongside a more fleeting appearance of Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Izumi Kawanishi, president of Sony Honda Mobility, had specified some time ago that it would have been “technologically possible” to offer videogame entertainment on board the electric car designed by the two companies and that the project did not see this type of content as a simple “side dish” . Which is why Sony and Honda have worked closely with Qualcomm, Unreal Engine ed Epic Games to make Afeela a real “smartphone car” and to offer a Virtual Reality experience never seen before in the automotive sector.
