The electric car is constantly evolving! And with the CES currently being held, the announcements are going well. While Sony has lifted the veil on its Afeela, BMW revealed last night its new concept car capable of changing color at will.
2023: the year of all possibilities for electric cars?
2022 has been a prolific year for the electric car, and even if the trend is more towards the globalization of this type of vehicle, nothing can guarantee that the figures for 2023 will be just as impressive. To give you an idea, no less than 932,000 electric cars found takers in October 2022, an increase of 55% compared to the same period in 2021.
As we explained to you in the preamble to this article, it is currently being held in Las Vegas (Nevada, United States), le Consumer Electronics Show (CES) which is none other than the largest exhibition dedicated to technological innovation. This event is the preferred time for Tech brands to make announcements. And in the middle of NVIDIA, Sony, Samsung or TCL, for a few years, car manufacturers have also been inviting themselves. This is the case this year for BMW, which presented overnight from Wednesday to Thursday its new concept car baptized BMW i Vision Dee.

The objective of this sedan: “to create an even stronger bond between individuals and their cars. In this prototype, the German manufacturer has brought together several technologies that it wishes to transpose from 2025 into the models of the “NEUE KLASSE” (new class, in French).
BMW has a head full of ideas for its electric cars and intends to democratize them!
The BMW i Vision Dee is therefore “a futuristic mid-size sedan with a very refined design language. And honestly, it’s hard to say otherwise when we lay our eyes on the few photos made available by BMW in their communiqué. However, with this new concept car, it is not only a question of sleek design, but also of ultra-innovative technology.
The most incredible, in our view, is undoubtedly the one concerning the body color change. If the BMW iX Flow could go from white to black and vice versa, the BMW i Vision Dee does even better thanks to a color chart of 32 colors. Pink and white, orange and black, or purple and yellow with the help of the E Ink company, BMW seems to have found a way to change the color of a vehicle at will. Olivier Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BMW AG explains:

With the BMW i Vision Dee, we show what is possible when hardware and software merge. Thus, we are able to exploit the full potential of digitalization to make the car an intelligent teammate. This is the future of the automobile – and also that of BMW: the fusion of virtual experience with real driving pleasure.
The communiqué concludes with the following words: “The future of the BMW Group is electric, circular and digital. The BMW i Vision Dee embodies the digital aspect of this trio and brand, a further step on the way to the next generation of all-electric BMW cars: the “NEUE KLASSE”. The future therefore seems set for the German manufacturer.
