When the first season of the Addams Family spin-off Wednesday started on Netflix more than two months ago, nobody could have guessed how successful the series about the weird daughter of the creepy family would be. The streaming provider has been making negative headlines more often lately. In the history of Netflix, for example, the number of subscribers fell for the first time in 2022. The threat to take rigorous action against account sharing and the sharing of passwords in the new year also caused anger and frustration among viewers. And to top it all off, the advertising subscription also flopped, so that millions of advertising had to be paid back.
Wednesday turns out to be the hoped-for hit for Netflix
So a new hit was badly needed for Netflix. While the fourth season of Stranger Things turned out to be a phenomenal success and incidentally made a song from the 1980s a world hit for a second time, the series about the mysterious girl Eleven will be finished with the fifth season.
The German series 1899, which was unveiled with great advance praise, started promisingly in 58 countries at number 1 in the charts, but was still unable to build on the success of its spiritual predecessor Dark and was ended abruptly after one season.
Shortly before Christmas, the thriller Glass Onion by popular Star Wars director Rian Johnson was a huge success. The sequel to the movie Knives Out! set new standards and knew how to inspire both viewers and critics. However, Netflix should put a lot of emphasis on getting successful series whose episodes can be published over a long period of time. With Wednesday, this was achieved impressively at the end of the year.

Officially confirmed: Wednesday is getting a second season
As Netflix revealed a few hours ago, there will be a second season of Wednesday. After the incredible success of the Addams Family spin-off, this doesn’t seem surprising. However, there was no official confirmation until recently. When will Wednesday season 2 come out? Unfortunately, nothing is known about this yet. If you take into account the complex production of the series, it will probably not be until 2024 before new episodes appear on Netflix.
