PS4 and Xbox One owners will only be able to enjoy the Harry Potter RPG on Tuesday, April 4th, 2023.

Because of the ongoing debate about JK Rowling’s anti-trans statements, the publisher of Hogwarts Legacy felt compelled to clarify to what extent the creator of Harry Potter was involved in the development of the role-playing game at all. A statement from Warner Bros. reads: “JK Rowling was not creatively involved in the making of the game – however, her exceptional writing skills are the cornerstone of all projects based on The Wizarding World. This is not a new story from JK Rowling.” So there was only a kind of “quality control” on the part of the author.

Nevertheless, in the case of Hogwarts Legacy, a lot of money should flow to JK Rowling. The 57-year-old Briton sold the marketing rights to Harry Potter to Warner in 2000, but retained the publishing rights to the brand and secured a full say in any adaptations of the wizard’s student tale. Every time any officially licensed product from the world of Harry Potter walks across a store counter, JK Rowling takes his share.
According to Forbes, the Brit earned around $60 million in 2020 and was the 2nd highest-earning author in the world. In addition to her books, she mainly made a profit with the films and the attractions in the amusement parks of Universal Studios. JK Rowling is a billionaire and is considered one of the wealthiest people in Britain.

A failure of the role-playing game would hit the hard-working developers in the first place. Hogwarts Legacy will be out in a month.
