Nintendo’s efforts in the extra-videogame fields will materialize very soon with the theatrical release of the Super Mario Bros. film made by Illumination Entertainment, the animation studio already responsible for Despicable Me and Minions. The ambitions of the Kyoto house, in any case, could be even greater.
According to Giant Freakin Robot, Illumination Entertainment is also working on an animated adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. The portal claims to have learned the news from some of its “trusted and reliable sources”, the same ones who had already predicted the exit of Henry Cavill from the DC film franchise and the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 .
Despite the promising history of the sources in question, the information can in no way be considered certain, therefore we advise you to take it with pliers. On the other hand, a confirmation from Nintendo would not surprise us at all, given the interest of the house in the film adaptations of its IPs and the excellent relations between Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination Entertainment. The quality of the new film of the Italian plumber is still to be ascertained, however the trailers of Super Mario Bros. have been positively received by the public and could represent the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration between the two realities.
Since the processing times of animated films are very long, don’t expect a confirmation in the short term. In the meantime, enjoy the Super Mario Bros. film, expected in Italian cinemas for on April 6, 2023.
