Netflix confirms season two for Wednesday

January 8th, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. by Susanne Braun – The latest production hit from the streaming provider Netflix bears the name of a day of the week and builds on the cult surrounding one of the darkest families of all time: Wednesday. If you haven’t expected it yet, you can sit back and relax: Netflix has officially confirmed season 2 for Wednesday Addams.

The Addams Family is primarily known to those who were old enough to see the film of the same name in the 1990s – or who watched the series from the 1960s. But the family is much older. Cartoons of the Addams Family appeared in The New Yorker magazine in 1938, meaning: They will soon (in the broadest sense) be celebrating their 100th birthday. Ever since the pen of American cartoonist Charles Addams, The Addams Family has been popular in films, shows, comics and more.

And that popularity is currently enjoying a resurgence, thanks in part to the success of the Netflix series (produced by MGM) Wednesday, which is currently taking over the streaming charts. The Addams Family, conceived as a satirical version of the typical American post-war family, has put daughter Wednesday in the running for the popularity throne – and Wednesday delivers.

Season 2 confirmed for Wednesday

Fans of the emotionally cool, reserved and morbidly fascinated Wednesday will be pleased to hear that Netflix officials officially confirmed a second season for the series via press release on January 6, 2023. Wednesday is now “the third highest-grossing series of all time on Netflix” (beaten only by Stranger Things 4 and Squid Game) and has been streamed around 1.2 billion hours in the past few weeks.
