Published on 08/01/2023 at 10:35
As the year 2023 approaches, your desire for adventure and open spaces are undoubtedly in good shape. To continue on this path, what better than to list, now, the next open worlds that will make the news next year? We’re getting ready, we’re going to the open world!
We already have the release date
The prophesied
We start strong with Forspoken, the next – and new – action-RPG from Square Enix. So, to be clear, this is not an open world in the strict sense of the term! The areas to explore freely are unlocked as you go, you do not have access to all of them from the start. Nothing serious. In all cases, Athia’s universe stretches out its arms to you here. You play as Frey, a young New Yorker catapulted, without warning, into a magical dimension! His goal ? Get out. To do this: she can rely on magic parkour to move quickly.
Release date : January 24, 2023Platforms: PC, PS5 (later on Xbox Series)
Hogwarts Legacy
Want more magic? So we move on to Hogwarts Legacy, the famous and highly anticipated Harry Potter RPG. Yes, you will be able to freely explore the universe of the most famous of wizards – be it the hogwarts castle, village of Hogsmeade, but also a whole bunch of places created for the occasion! You can imagine it, even if the developers are inspired a lot by films and novels, they had to arrange the universe of JK Rowling in a precise way so that everything fits into a realistic open world. So, ready to discover the secret of a strange black magic?
Release date : February 10, 2023Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, One, Xbox Series, Switch
Atomic Heart
On the border between an uchronia à la Wolfenstein and gameplay à la Bioshock, we find Atomic Heart – FPS which plunges you into an open world where Soviet technology has taken over. We are not talking about conventional weapons of war, but about strange creatures, deformed robots, and a whole bunch of other things that won’t welcome you with open arms! All in all, we could find ourselves with a confusing experience, by its original bestiary – also by the choice of the open world where we can come across anything and everything. A great surprise ?
Release date : February 21, 2023Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, One, Xbox Series
The Day Before
What ? Want more weird and scary creatures? Then you should take a look at The Day Before, the famous “MMO The Last of Us” as we like to call it in the industry! So the idea is simple, you find yourself online, in a big open world, and you have to do anything to survive with your friends. Of course, you have to worry about zombies – yes – but also about other players, who can also attack you and take your precious loot! The world of The Day Before is shaping up to be big – with the need for vehicles to travel.
Release date : 1 March 2023Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
The next game could almost define the year 2023 on its own. Yes – next year – we will be able to play the sequel to Breath of the Wild, namely Zelda Tears of the Kingdom… So we don’t know exactly in what state we will find the open world of the first episode, obviously destroyed by a not really reassuring cataclysm! But what is certain is that there will be plenty to explore, this time in the air with flying islands, and a whole bunch of structures whose secret we don’t yet know. Another amazing epic.
Release date : May 12, 2023Platform : Switch
STALKER 2 The Heart of Chernobyl
For the first time: the STALKER series will choose the open world with its second opus The Heart of Chernobyl! So, of course, we will find all that is action in view FPS, radioactive zone, monsters, bizarre events – but this time with a large terrain to explore. A living ground, literally. As in the past, the developers will rely on “A-Life”, an engine that allows NPCs on the map to interact with each other. Possible, therefore, to arrive somewhere while a battle is preparing… Enough to give this title a really special flavor.
Release date : 1st semester 2023Platforms: PC, Xbox Series
Redfall
After the excellent Prey, the developers at Arkane take the direction of vampires and action shooter with Redfall. A new project that will be in the open world, so… Whether in alone | in cooperation, here you will have the opportunity to travel to Massachusetts in search of creatures that hate garlic. As heroes, Devinder, the cryptozoologist, Layla, telekinetic student, Remi, the military engineer, Jacob, the former sniper are there. A dream team, within a game with a gameplay that is still really hard-hitting. Can not wait to see the result.

We are waiting for the release date
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
On the sidelines of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, 2023 will also be the year of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, a very good episode from 2018… This time, Peter Parker and Miles Morales will have to face the horrible Venom – and that’s about all we know. To date, we haven’t seen a gameplay video, but for sure, it will still be an open-world game. After all, what better way to allow Spidey to move smoothly in the streets of manhattan ? It remains to be seen how Insomniac will evolve the basic formula.
Release date : 2023Platform : PS5
Diablo 4
Another first for a great series of video games: Diablo IV will also try out the open world. According to the developers, you will be able to explore Blizzard’s latest world as you see fit once the prologue is over. Enough to fall on powerful opponents or dungeons with priceless treasures ! Yes, Diablo IV remains a hack’n’slash where the action and the loot (lots of objects to collect) occupy a very important place. We simply hope that the choice of the open world will not break Diablo’s significant progression curve too much.
Release date : 2023Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, One, Xbox Series
Starfield
Another very big expectation for 2023, Starfield is the next project from Bethesda studios, usually working on The Elder Scrolls series. Here – of course – a total change of scenery since we take the direction of space and the stars, with ‘more than 1000 planets’ to explore, just that. Clearly, Bethesda isn’t replicating the error of No Man’s Sky here – with way too many uninteresting, randomly generated locations. We would like the quality of the team’s writing to be consistently there! We are waiting to see all of this… in 2023, therefore.
Release date : 2023Platforms: PC, Xbox Series
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
For once in a long time: the Assassin’s Creed series will not opt for a huge open world but for a well-deserved return to basics. In Mirage, direction the Middle East and in particular Baghdad. Here you play Bassim who, like any good assassin, will have to take advantage of the city density and their secret to hitting their target. The main interest will therefore be the cities themselves. Not much to do with Valhalla then, but we can’t wait to see how Ubisoft will revive the essence of the series. Mirage, it’s coming soon!
Release date : 2023Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, One, Xbox Series
Avatar Frontiers of Pandora
We end on Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, the next video game from the famous universe of James Cameron and which will return to the cinema very soon. Inevitably, the setting lends itself very well to an open world game, with its terrain luxuriant, its animals to move while flying or even the big legs of the people of Pandora to jump everywhere. Especially since, like any good open world, there is enough to create unexpected events, with places to discover or even threats that arrive without warning (animals and humans equipped with robots). Nice, right?Release date: 2023-2024Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series
