On May 3, 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy will be back with a third movie. The opportunity to find (one last time?) Rocket, Star-Lord, Gamora, Nebula, Groot and Drax in an adventure as rock as crazy. But this new MCU film will also mark the end of the journey for one of the actors.
Guardians of the Galaxy mission not complete
Directed by a James Gunn now head of DC Studios, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will take the group fight Ayesha, the priestess of the Sovereigns, but not only. The feature film will also to learn more about the origins of Rocket and an Adam Warlock played by Will Poulter. The path was difficult for this third installment, since after highlighting jokes on pedophilia published years before, James Gunn was fired couple disney.
The latter defended himself by explaining that it was black humor and that he had come back from it, but accepted the decision from production. Very supported, the director is finally rehired in 2019. Filmed between November 2021 and April 2022, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still scheduled to hit theaters the 3rd of 2023 as part of phase 4 of the MCU which, as a reminder, has inaugurated the Saga of the Multiverse.
Dave Bautista grateful but happy to be done with the MCU
This film will nevertheless mark a turning point for Dave Bautista, the interpreter of Drax. Nearly 9 years after his first appearance as The Destroyer, the former WWE wrestler will move on. And if he is extremely grateful of the opportunity offered by Marvel and Disney, it seems rather relieved to leave this part of his career behind of actor. In an interview with GQ, he returned at length to his career, to his role as Drax, while implying that he was not not a fan of the treatment given by Kevin Feige to the character. Indeed, unlike the comics where he is most often presented as a bad-ass character, the Drax of the MCU has been oriented towards a rather comical role:
I’m so grateful to Drax. I love it. But there is a relief (in the fact that it’s over). All was not pleasant. It was hard to play this role. The makeup process oppressed me. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy – it’s a “dumb” performance and I want to do more dramatic stuff.
Wishing to be taken seriously in Hollywood and refusing to be compared to The Rock, Dave Bautista hopes to land very different and more serious roles. It has already begun, since he embodies an amazing character in Glass Onion by Rian Johnson. The director was also captivated by the acting talents of the former wrestler, and he will not fail to talk about it to his colleagues. For his part, Dave Bautista dreams of working again and more closely with Denis Villeneuvewhich featured him in Blade Runner 2049 and Dune.
If I could be number one with Denis, I would do it for free. I think that’s how I was able to discover how good I could be. He brings out the best in me. He sees me in a different light, sees the performer I want to be.
It remains to be seen if Drax will die or if he will simply disappear from the general plot by means of a screenplay pirouette. Answer in a few months!
