2023 will be one of the richest years for electric car releases. Difficult to make a choice in the ocean of new references which are about to arrive on the market. Brands like Renault, Peugeot, Mercedes or even Volkswagen are planning a very big year.
Few affordable cars in 2023
A majority of car manufacturers are moving upmarket this year to offer increasingly premium models. Conversely, few decide to go down to more affordable models. Unfortunately in France to buy a cheap electric car in 2023it will always be necessary to count on the 20,000 euros of the Dacia Spring.
On the other hand, we can count in the preamble the restyling of the Dacia as a novelty in 2023. Even if we expect a new, more powerful engine accompanied by a larger battery to compensate. Not sure if that will happen this year.
Electric Renault R5
With a starting price of around 30,000 euros, it will not be a very affordable model. It still intends to break the market with a retro futuristic design that is sure to turn heads.
The 100 kW motor provides plenty of power with a 40-50 kW battery for a range of at least 350 km. The only downside is that the car could be released in late 2023, or even early 2024.
Citroën e-C3 2023
Several models could emerge, including one that aims to compete with the Dacia Spring. But for the moment it is more of a model around 30,000 euros. Autonomy could be around 350 km. The “Eco” model should approach the 20,000 euros of the Dacia Spring, even if for the moment we do not have much information while it should arrive in the coming weeks.
Citroën ë-C4 X
Citroën’s new electric car opens the brand upmarket, while maintaining a reasonable price for an electric car. With its 100 kW engine, i.e. 136 hp, it should have a 50 kW battery for a range of 360 km. It seems a little feeble, but the launch should take place just below the 40,000 euro mark.
Electric Opel Astra
Opel is there to compete with the Peugeot e-308 with its car. Even if they are both part of the Stellantis group, it is a question of proposing a model which is intended to be equivalent for less than 40,000 euros. It should offer a 156 hp engine, i.e. 115 kW for a 54 kW battery. It should to pass the bar of 400 km of autonomy.
Peugeot e-308
Peugeot is fully invested in the transition to electric cars. The arrival of the e-308 is a strong sign with a medium or even premium electric car which should start at a price of 45,000 euros.
The autonomy will be more than 400 km with the same platform and engine as the Opel Astra. Apart from the design, it should be very close electric cars.
Jeep Avenger
Jeep is attacking the electric sector with its first car without a combustion engine. An impulse from the Stellantis group which is pushing all models to go electric. This year, we will be able to see the Jeep Avenger at a starting price of around 40,000 euros. Pre-orders are already launched.
Like the other electric cars in the group, it will have a 115 kW motor and a 54 kW battery. Autonomy will thus be 400 km and can be increased to 550 km in the top-of-the-range model.
Higher-end electric cars will be popular
Now we come to electric cars which should exceed 45,000 or even 50,000 euros. For some, it will even be only half the price.
On the Volkswagen side, there is the future ID7 which comes to compete with the Tesla Model 3. It was seen at CES in Las Vegas. It will be a more premium ID4 with a price between 50 and 70,000 euros anyway.
Let’s talk about the incredible MG Cyberster, which will be an ultra futuristic Roadster with an aggressive look. If MG made a big impression with the MG4, this is about tapping into the high-end market. It should arrive later this year, even if the information is difficult to find.
Finally, for the pleasure of the eyes and the misfortune of the wallet, we find this year the Rolls-Royce Spectre. The brand’s first electric car at a higher price than high. It should thus arrive at around 420,000 euros. The brand with unparalleled comfort will have taken some time to switch to silent motors. Objective: to switch its entire range to electric by 2030.
As a bonus, we can also hope to see the Tesla Cybertruck arrive during the year. A high-end pickup that is here to dethrone Ford’s now electric truck.
