This seems impossible, but apparently, Google wants to take some of the most popular and most recent features of the Android Ecosystem to slightly older versions, which never had the possibility of receiving them.
This will only happen on some devices, but it is still not very well explained, or at least, it is so strange that the vast majority of users will be left thinking… “But what is it?” Well, first of all, it’s good news!
Google wants to bring new features to old Android
Therefore, in a new publication on the website for Android Developers, Google announced that a new extension to the SFK framework will allow developers to offer certain newer features to certain devices based on older versions of Android.
As? Well, in case you didn’t know, starting from Android 10, it is possible to update parts of the operating system, without having to do a complete traditional installation, spent on Modular System Components.
An example of all this is the PhotoPicket API!
Which was previously only available on Android 13, but now it will be possible to take it to Android 11 and 12.
So, in this way, if you happen to have an old smartphone, but which is still very much alive, and ready to last another 1 or 2 years… This is excellent news for you. It is also good news for the world of technology, as we are seeing a giant like Google, paying attention to old software versions, which in turn give life to almost obsolete devices.
Also, what do you think about all this? A good effort by Google? Or is it something so small, that it will affect so few users, that it’s not even worth it? Share your opinion with us in the comments box below.
