Several key members of Playground Games have formed their own AAA games studio, Maverick Games.
At Playground Games, developers of the Forza Horizon racing series, several key members of the team have left the studio to start their own.
The new AAA game studio will be known as Maverick Games and will be led by Mike Brown, former creative director of Forza Horizon.
Also joining Maverick with Brown are Tom Butcher, previously Executive Producer and Lead Producer, Content Director Gareth Harwood, Audio Director Fraser Strachan and CTO Matt Craven.
Brown told Gamesindustry about his departure from Playground Games:
“In 2021 we released Forza Horizon 5, which was very exciting to work on. As much as I had an amazing journey at Playground, I found myself wondering, what’s next? Am I staying at this fun good job? Or should I look for other options? Then this opportunity arose. I was asked what my vision for a new studio would be… and luckily I had an idea in mind.”
So far, Maverick Games has ten employees. Later it will be 140.
The first title to be developed will be a premium open world game for the console and PC platforms.
