A few developers from Playground Games have founded their own studio together. Work is already underway on their first project.
Exactly six employees of “Forza” developer Playground Games have decided to open their own studio. This includes:
Creative Director Mike Brown
Lead Producer Tom Butcher
Technical Director Matt Craven
Technical Art Director Gareth Harwood
Art Director Ben Penrose
Audio Director Fraser Stachan
Also on board is Harinder Sangha, who used to be the co-studio head at Sumo Digital and is also the boss here. Finally, we have Elly Marshall, former director of experience design at EA. She takes over the post of UX/UI Director.

According to the current status, ten developers are under contract. In the coming years, the number of employees is expected to increase to 140. To achieve this, developers will be allowed to work remotely, among other things. Despite this, the studio will have a permanent location in Leamington.
The developers received “significant seed funding” to set up the studio. Maverick Games also promotes a forward-thinking work culture that encourages talented developers to create.
Open world game in progress
The newly founded development studio is to produce a premium open world game that will be released for both consoles and PC. This is currently being worked on.
A statement from Mike Brown said: “For the players we are already working on an exciting, high-quality title. And for developers, we are building a home where everyone is encouraged to take risks, be curious, be creative, innovate, be themselves, and most importantly, be a maverick.”
The creative director describes himself more as an “open world guy” and not as a “driver guy”. So it doesn’t necessarily have to be a (classic) racing game. In any case, the title claims to “win all prizes.”

Playground Games must therefore continue its work on the current projects without the well-known developers. In addition to a download extension for “Forza Horizon 5”, the role-playing game “Fable” is planned.
