On the screens of the Sony Honda car, it will be possible to play PS5 games, or even play commercials.
Last week during CES 2023, Sony unveiled its electric car designed in partnership with Honda. With its rather sleek look, the electric car sold under the Afeela brand will naturally include some interesting technologies. Passengers will indeed be able to play PS4 and PS5 productions, a bit like Tesla, which offered to explore Steam titles. Entertainment will be accessible via the cloud, provided of course that you have a decent internet connection.
Naturally, it will also be possible to use the screens of the vehicle to simply watch shows, films or series. The vehicle also includes an infotainment system powered by the Unreal Engine 5 video game engine, 45 sensors around the car for autonomous driving and assistance, and a LiDaR that protrudes above the front windshield. And then on the power side, expect a 0 to 100 in less than 5 seconds.
A car that advertises?
The little surprise is above all the panoramic screen placed outside the vehicle, just in front. This “multimedia bar” as Sony calls it would display a variety of images or rather useful data such as the weather or the battery level of your vehicle when it recharges quietly. A way of “expressing yourself” according to Yasuhide Mizuno, CEO of Sony Honda Mobility. But as pointed out by our colleagues from Kotaku, this large screen can also serve as a billboard. During the CES demonstration, a promotional image for the feature film Spider-Man: No Way Home paraded on the car, with Mizuno calling such interactions “fun and exciting.” This passage, very furtive, was not commented on live by the person concerned. For many, the car could then take the form of a walking partnership for brands eventually. To see how the functionality evolves in the coming years.
The release date of the car is announced for the first half of 2025 for the North American market. It will probably arrive in Europe a few months later.
