According to multiple sources, Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming film “Megapolis” has descended into chaos. The film, which is currently halfway through filming in Atlanta, has lost key team members, including a production designer and art director, over the past week.
Megapolis has been the director’s dream project for decades, so he decided to finance the approximately $120 million film on his own. Since the fall of 2021, when the development of the project began, the budget has increased, filming should last 80-90 days, but it is not clear if production can move on.
In the first half of December, Coppola fired the visual effects team (just like he did with Dracula 30 years ago). At the moment, the film does not have an art department as such. Sources also say that the director intended to use the same technology for working with the background in the film, which was used in The Mandalorian, but it turned out to be too expensive.
Megalopolis is an epic tale of political ambition, genius and conflicted love. The action takes place in modern New York, which can repeat the fate of ancient Rome.
The cast includes Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Voight, Shia LaBeouf and Aubrey Plaza.
